Cossayuna
Volunteer Fire Department
On March
9, 1950, an open meeting was held at the Cossayuna School house. Over
fifteen hundred dollars had been pledged for fire equipment by members
of the community. Upon motion it was voted to form a Fire Department.
The land
on which a fire house was to be erected was donated by Mrs. Josephine
Johnson. Money subscriptions were taken to outfit the Fire Department.
The lumber for the fire house was donated as well as many hours of labor
in its erection. A bank loan was made to purchase needed equipment. The
department got some remuneration from the towns of Argyle and Greenwich,
but the chief source of revenue was the annual carnival which was held
at Kincaid’s.
